James Littleton WHITTINGTON, second son of Tyre Glenn and Julia Ann Beatty Whittington was born May 1, 1846 and departed this life March 13, 1932 at 5:30 a.m. at the age of 85 years 9 months 12 days. He came here from Kentucky with his parents who were pioneers, overland in a wagon and settled on this farm and had lived here most of his life, except a few years he spent in Vineta, Ohio where he was in the cattle business. Uncle Jim, as he was known by his friends was highly respected and loved by all who knew him. Although he was never united with any church his life was proof positive of his membership in the church invisible which is composed of those who love God and are in peace and fellowship with his followers. He was never married and he and his sister, Ellen have always kept the old home place since their father passed away and a cheery welcome awaited all the friends and kinfolks who went there. He leaves to mourn his sister, Lucy Ellen who has made his last years comfortable and happy and in his last sickness has shielded him in every way possible; two brothers, Reese of Salina, OK; and George of Indianapolis, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by the parents, one sister, Mrs. Fannie Easley; 3 brothers, Sherman G and John T and William H. Whittington.
